USDT Networks: TRC20 vs ERC20 vs BEP20
If you are planning to accept Tether (USDT), you must support the networks your customers actually use. USDT is natively issued on over a dozen blockchains, but three dominate the market.
ERC20 (Ethereum)
This is the legacy standard. While it possesses the highest institutional liquidity and deepest DeFi integration, its gas fees can spike between $5 and $50 per transaction. It is unsuitable for micro-transactions or standard e-commerce, but excellent for large enterprise settlements.
TRC20 (TRON)
TRC20 is the undisputed king of retail USDT transfers. The TRON network was optimized for stablecoins, offering 3-second block times and network fees that usually cost just a fraction of a cent. If you run a SaaS or e-commerce store, TRC20 support is mandatory.
BEP20 (Binance Smart Chain)
BSC offers the best of both worlds: it is EVM-compatible (meaning users can use MetaMask and familiar Ethereum tools) but offers much lower fees and faster processing times than the Ethereum mainnet. It is highly popular in emerging markets.
